Rug Cleaning in Porters Neck
Collection and delivery in Porters Neck are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.
What Porters Neck is built from
North New Hanover County off Market Street, between Futch Creek and Pages Creek, with a golf community at its centre and newer subdivisions filling the ground between the road and the marsh. Slab-on-grade houses, mostly 1990s onward, with docks and boat access common on the creek side.
Strongly retired and strongly boating. A good number of these households moved down from further north and brought rugs that had spent their whole lives on carpet in a dry house.
The Porters Neck problem
Marsh mud is a different material from beach sand and it behaves nothing like it. The mud in these tidal creeks is anoxic — it sits under water without oxygen, so it is full of sulphur-reducing bacteria and iron sulphides, which is where the smell comes from — and it is not granular at all. It is an extremely fine grey clay that arrives wet, wicks straight into a wool pile, and dries bonded to the fibre rather than resting on top of it. Two consequences. Vacuuming achieves close to nothing, because there is nothing loose to lift. And the sulphide odour is not a surface smell to be sprayed over; it is a chemistry that has to be flushed out and oxidised. It comes in on bare feet, dog paws and the underside of anything that has been on a dock, and it lands in the same three places every time: inside the back door, in front of the outdoor shower, and wherever the dog sleeps. People either attack it wet, which spreads it across twice the area, or let it dry and brush it, which drives it further down.
If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
